Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort Yamba Review
It was time for a much needed getaway and what better place to celebrate our little girls birthday than a holiday at Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort Yamba.
It seems everyone has heard of or been to Yamba at one stage or another, and in all honestly I have never heard a bad word said about the place. So with reading reviews and doing some research we all decided that the Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort Yamba was the place to make one little girl’s birthday memorable, and even have some R & R for Mum and Dad!
With a beautiful drive from Brisbane down to Yamba towing our Jayco Swan, we had a great run down almost 3 hours to the minute. No real issues just a little road works and great ocean scenery once the border was crossed that even the kids enjoyed.
What’s Yamba like? Well it has 13 beaches all in one little coastal fishing town, a few pubs, major shopping center with Coles and Target and every other amenities you would expect in bigger towns. That said, you can sense the more relaxed slower pace that the town has to offer.
The Blue Dolphin is easy to find and is very well positioned to access all the places that the town has to offer – everything is a short walk or drive away!
Upon arrival the staff were very friendly and accommodating, even offering us a refund as we over payed for our little man! So first impressions were good. They had a team member “escort” us the caravan site (ensuite water front) but other guests car was parked on the spot. After a bit of confusion and 20 minutes of waiting we got given another spot and was able to set up.
We got a waterfront spot and has power and an ensuite. The site itself could not have been anymore waterfront and made full use of the views of the spectacular Clarence River.
Few small issue so far, on the site there was no waste water point and the site isn’t the easiest in the world to get out of hen leaving. (small problems, but problems nonetheless).
Once set up we went for a walk to explore the park. It is pretty large and well maintained, Nice neat landscaping and concrete paths. There are a number of kids activities such as parks, jumping pillow games room etc, all the amenities are very clean and in very good condition.
There is 2 main pool areas, one with 2 slides and the main area that incorporates the swim up bar, a spa and a kids area as well as a BBQ area. The pool, bar and spa is heated ( i feel not enough though) but the kids area and other pool area with the slides are not. I would like to see the kids area heated seeing that the park is focused on kids.
This area is definitely the “central hub” with the bar pool area and the ability to order food from there onsite cafe/restaurant. The bar is a great added feature and is nice to have a “relaxer” or 2, while relaxing poolside.
The kids loved the pool, and we even attempted the kids area, my god was that cold!!
We went to the local Tavern – Yamba Shores for lunch, meals were good and well priced, there is also a play area in the eating area so you can watch your kids while they play. I noticed that you can get a courtesy bus direct from Blue Dolphin to the Tavern also.
While we are on the subject of food, The Park has it’s own restaurant. it’s tucked away and open twice a day. Now this is where things get interesting, we think that there calamari is the best we have ever had – by far, and the rest of the fish and chips we got was also up there with the best. I feel that this is their hidden Gem and should be pushed harder (maybe delivery to your campsite). A big thank you goes to the employees there and well done!
Overall we all had a fantastic time at Blue Dolphin Holiday Resort and definitely will be returning, Sienna and Will loved the place and are stall talking about it, while Mum and Dad got to relax too. I would have to say that so far this is the nicest Caravan Park we have been to, and have no hesitation recommending it. It would be at its best in the warmer months as this park is all about water.
